We've completely revamped how templates and reports work in Sparrow! You can now create templates in Google Slides, save them to your Sparrow account, then use them to generate reports for all your clients.

Not a designer? Just select one of our pre-built templates 😄 Alongside the launch of this new feature we have a few basic Google Slide templates you can use, with plans to add more every month.

  • Create and design templates in Google Slides
  • Use your templates to create reports for all your clients
  • Customize existing templates to fit your needs
  • Export reports as Slides, PPTX, or PDF

Create one-click templates

To get the most from Sparrow, users need to insert metrics into their own documents and then save those as private templates they can use over and over again. While powerful for someone who has a bunch of already built slides, it can be daunting for a new user to try and create a slide deck or spreadsheet from scratch.

Sparrow should provide some one-click turnkey templates that can be used by Sparrow users. Users will be able to browse a selection of available templates, and then save the template to their account if they're interested in using it with their own data.

Sparrow Dashboard Improvements

We added some improvements to our dashboards to make them easier to use!

Filter dashboard views

You can now filter your dashboard views for Ads and Google Analytics 🎉 This allows you to drill down into the data for individual ad campaigns and individual properties and pages for Google Analytics.

Support for email filtering coming soon 😄

Metric Definition Tooltips

Not sure what a metric means or want clarity on how we calculate something? Just click the metric and you'll be able to see the definition alongside the time period we're comparing the metric to (for growth percentages).

Insert Social Media Screenshots

You can now insert screenshots of your social media posts directly into Google Slides.

Inserted screenshots refresh alongside your metrics, so you're always looking at the latest metrics within the screenshot image.

Insert social media screenshots

Background:

  • When creating client presentations, many social media marketers simply screenshot the social media post and add it to a slide. Typically they will include a few bullets on how the post performed and any insights that might have been gained from the post.

Feature

  • A Sparrow user should be able to see a "Screenshot" of the social media post inside the add-on, and, if they want, have the option to insert the screenshot directly into their presentation.
  • The user should be able to set the screenshot to update daily, so it's guaranteed that it always has the latest data
  • The user should be able to configure some basic design elements on the post
    • last update timestamp
    • which metrics are shown/hidden
    • hide/show Sparrow watermark

add-on settings page

Background:

  • Currently, to manage your settings in the add-on, the user is taken to the main sparrow web app where they can configure everything with their account.

Feature:

  • we should give the user the ability to configure their account settings directly inside the add-on.

Some advanced settings (like subscription management) will still need to be handled in the web app, but basic settings (like name, timezone, default insert configuration) could all be available to change in a dedicated settings page.

Insert & Sync Charts

Through our Google add-on, we want to enable users to be able to insert our charts as images.

  • The user will be able to insert a chart from a single metric
  • The user will be able to create a custom chart leveraging data from multiple data sources
  • We should support our "sync capabilities" with the charts; if enabled the image should refresh every day to show the latest data

Bonus:

  • It should be easy for the user to see their inserted charts. Maybe we also let them save charts they built as "templates" so they can quickly re-insert the same chart style but with different data.

Quick Insert

Users now have the ability to use our Quick Insert option - this makes it easier to insert data into a document quickly.

View social media posts in add-on panel

Background

With the Sparrow Google add-on, users can see metrics from their connected marketing accounts, but they cannot see the performance of individual social media posts.

Idea

It would be great if users could see their individual posts within the Sparrow add-on, the performance metrics of each post, and the ability to sync those metrics to documents.

Insert data as table

Through our Quick Insert button, we plan to give users the ability to create and insert a table of data, either broken out per day or by content (social media post, ad campaign, website URL, etc.)

  • Users will have the ability to insert data per day
  • Users will have the ability to insert data per content (ad campaign, social post, etc.)
  • Users will have the ability to have new data inserted at the bottom of the table on refresh, instead of updating the existing table rows
  • Users will be able to create tables for individual campaigns/adsets/ads or individual Google Analytics properties/views/pages.
